I always try to avoid the temptation of certainty

Christ crowned with thorns.jpg

There are four styles of estrangement and loss of interior calm

There is much to meditate on and contemplate about in these four temptations.

For us who are beginning the journey of this book, however, the figure at lower right is particularly relevant. He is grabbing Jesus by the robe, tugging him to the ground. He holds on to him and restricts his freedom, fastening his attention on him. He seems to be telling him: "Now listen to me, I know what I'm saying!" This is the temptation of "certainty".
